We are pleased to announce that the Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering (BIIE) has established a significant long-term strategic partnership with ETH Zurich, one of the world's leading research universities. This comprehensive Academic Partnership in Immune Engineering is the latest milestone driving our mission to improve child and adolescent health through translation-enabling immune engineering.

Our Shared Vision

This lasting partnership will combine our expertise and resources in translational immune engineering with ETH Zurich's world-class capabilities in biosystems science and engineering. Leveraging each organization’s strengths, we will develop and deploy innovative solutions that leverage the immune system’s potential to combat global healthcare challenges.

Key Pillars of Our Partnership

At its launch, the partnership encompasses several strategic initiatives that will strengthen both institutions and advance the field of immune engineering. Together with ETH Zurich's Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE), we are establishing a base for expanding our joint activities:

  • Interdiscipline research projects and academic programs that will foster innovation and scientific training

  • Mutual access to state-of-the-art facilities, enhancing research capabilities for both organizations

  • Affiliated professorships and professors of practice, allowing for deeper integration between our institutions

In addition to its own computational groups,  the BIIE will support and host a D-BSSE Professor of Computational Immunology in its newly constructed facility. This professorship will strengthen both institutions by enhancing D-BSSE’s research capabilities in computational modeling of immunological data while advancing BIIE's mission.

Strengthening Basel's Life Sciences Ecosystem

This partnership further establishes Basel as a global center for life sciences research and innovation. By combining our strengths with ETH Zurich's D-BSSE, which is also located in Basel, we actively support a remarkable public-private ecosystem that continues to attract talent, drive scientific discovery, and accelerates the translation of research into clinical applications.

Looking Forward

We are confident that this collaboration will advance the field of immune engineering and ultimately improve health outcomes for patients worldwide. The partnership is a further reflection of our commitment to pioneer the understanding of child and young people's health through scientific innovation and a dedication to creating tangible, transformative healthcare solutions. In the years ahead, we expect the BIIE to be recognized as a world-class research institution focused on translational immune engineering.

We look forward to sharing updates on our joint initiatives and the advances in immune engineering that will emerge from this strategic partnership.
